Seed Dormancy and Germination Requirements of Torilis scabra (Apiaceae)

چکیده
The timing of seed germination significantly affects the fitness and life cycle plants. Torilis scabra is a perennial medicinal herb occurring in mixed forests but increasing use modification forestlands recent decades has led to degeneration its natural habitat. Nonetheless, requirements for T. remain unclear. present study focused on identifying conditions necessary break dormancy describing type. By periodically collecting seeds that were sown field, phenology was studied. impact light, temperature, warm/cold stratification breaking promoting also determined through incubating laboratory conditions. Additionally, effect GA3 explored more accurately identify type present. results demonstrated possessed small, undeveloped embryos with physiological at time maturity. In embryo growth initiated early spring embryo–seed length ratio increased by ~300% before radical emerged. laboratory, from 0.24 0.82 when subjected cold 4 °C then transferred 15/25 °C. Germination observed across broad temperature range after stratification. helped after-ripening did not. Taken together, suggest have non-deep simple morphophysiological dormancy.

Dormancy breaking and germination requirements were investigated in seeds of Ferula ovina and Ferula gummosa. Seeds of rather species were collected from north and eastern-north rangelands of Iran. Seeds of each of the species were subjected to different treatments including various levels of GA3, chilling and combination of GA3 and chilling (GA-chilling). In contrast to treated seeds, non-trea...

Seed dormancy and germination are complex adaptive traits of higher plants that are influenced by a large number of genes and environmental factors. Studies of genetics and physiology have shown the important roles of the plant hormones abscisic acid and gibberellin in the regulation of dormancy and germination. More recently, the use of quantitative genetics and mutant approaches has allowed t...

Seeds are a vital component of the world’s diet. Cereal grains alone, which comprise -90% of all cultivated seeds, contribute up to half of the global per capita energy intake. Not surprisingly then, seed biology is one of the most extensively researched areas in plant physiology. Even in relation to the topics reviewed here, a casual perusal of the Agricola database reveals that well over 5000...
